Need for national policy on safe injection

In India alone, more than 7.8 million people suffer (6.26 million from Hepatitis B, 0.8 million from Hepatitis C and 8,600 from HIV) from infections focused due to the unsafe injection practices. Apart from this, 4.75 lakh people die annually as result of infections and diseases caused by the unsafe injections.

The above figures clearly show that it is a matter of international concern and how concerned is the international medical fraternity, can be gauged from the fact that World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF-UNFPA had  to issue a joint policy statement on the urgent need to implement the safe injection policy. The joint statement has laid the maximum emphasis on using Auto-Disable Syringes for safe injection. These Auto Disable Syringes popularly known as AD Syringes can not be reused at all. As per the WHO definition, the automatically rendered unusable after having delivered the prescribed dose of vaccine.
